My name is Sheryl Gaines and I have been involved in Spanish Water Dogs since 2001 when I got my first SWD, Gaucho. Since then, I have learned a lot about the SWD by observing and working with my own dogs, doing extensive research and reading as well as traveling to Spain and England and corresponding with SWD owners around the world.
I have taken 7 years to breed a litter because I wanted to learn as much as I could about breeding and about the breed before I bred a litter. I am fortunate to have wonderful mentors both in the Spanish Water Dog breed and other breeds.
We don't just claim Championships, we actively show our dogs!! We don't just talk about working, we do it!
I have been on the Board of Directors of the Spanish Water Dog Association of America for four years and have been the President since January 2007. For the most complete and accurate information about the Spanish Water Dog, please go to the SWDAA web site. I have also been Chair of the only active Rescue program for Spanish Water Dogs in the United States for the last 6 years.
My daughter Samantha, who is 14 years old is very involved as well. She has her own dog, Stella, who she trains, takes care of and shows. She has traveled to Spain as well and observed many Spanish Water Dogs. She is quite a proficient handler and has handled other dogs beside her own in the show ring.
